Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has signed a multi-year partnership with OpenAI and G42 to deploy artificial intelligence systems across its energy operations. The deal was announced on the sidelines of the ADIPEC exhibition in Abu Dhabi on Monday, witnessed by Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The alliance is designed to link operational, investment and commercial decisions across ADNOC's energy business by combining OpenAI's GPT models with ADNOC's industrial data and G42's UAE-based AI infrastructure.
Two initial applications have been defined. The first, field master planning, aims to cut the time needed to design a full oilfield development plan from months to hours by merging subsurface, facilities and economic data. The second, commercial coordination, links production, refining, logistics, sales and trading through interconnected AI agents to forecast supply, demand and prices.
The partnership also covers joint cybersecurity work through OpenAI's Daybreak Blue initiative and employee training programmes. ADNOC has already rolled out ChatGPT Enterprise to more than 40,000 employees, with a 97 per cent adoption rate.
ADNOC chief executive Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber said the next frontier of AI is not simply doing things faster, but making possible what was previously beyond reach. Financial terms and the deployment timeline were not disclosed.
