Meena Sareen, an Indian expatriate living in Dubai, has won the Dh25 million jackpot in the 292nd Big Ticket draw. The winning ticket, numbered 304251, was shared among a group of three people. Sareen learned of her win while at a shopping mall with her husband. Reacting to the news, she said she was shivering, speechless, and could not explain how she felt. Her husband attributed the win to the prosperity of the UAE, saying the couple strongly believes the country has a kind of magic in spreading good fortune.
Sareen had been entering Big Ticket draws for about four years before finally winning the top prize. The draw took place in Abu Dhabi, where the result was announced by the previous month's winner.
Big Ticket is one of the UAE's most popular legal raffles, selling tickets each month and awarding cash prizes and gold bars to winners. It draws strong interest from both residents and visitors, and many of its biggest winners over the years have been long-time expatriate participants who entered repeatedly before their win finally came through. The same draw also awarded smaller prizes of 200 grams of gold to several other participants from India, Oman and elsewhere, reflecting the wide range of nationalities taking part in the monthly competition.
